End of Summer, Fall is here!

Hi everyone!  Sorry I haven’t posted in so long!  Life has been CRAZY around here!  Between home school, running the business, and everyday life I haven’t had a moment to stop!  I feel bad that I haven’t posted anything…  So, today I’m posting a few pictures from our summer.  Enjoy!

The kids (oldest 5) went to my parents house for a week and while they were gone I painted my bedroom.  It took me the full week to do, I painted 3 coats on the ceiling, 2 coats on the walls, and 2 coats on all the trim.  I love how it turned out!

The kids did the library reading program.  One of the prizes was a free frosty from Wendy’s.  So fun!

We hosted 2 Chinese students for 3 weeks in July and August.  It was such a special experience for us, we love our “Chinese boys!”  They choose the American names James, and Edward.  Here they are making dinner for us. Edward is on the left and James is on the right.

Another picture of our Chinese boys, eating dinner with our family.  They didn’t really like most American food (except chicken nuggets!) but they were good sports and tried everything.

Elijah, Emmy, and Joe are going to a Charter School one day a week this year.  Here is their first day of school picture.

Malachi had his first birthday!  Rather than have a party we celebrated with just our family.  I made cupcakes for him and hung up a few balloons.  He had a blast!

We celebrated our anniversary by eating out at Red Robin, YUM!  Winking smile

Well, that’s about it for our summer pictures.  Next time I post I will try to do some pictures of our fall.  Thanks for your patience!  Have a blessed day!

Summer Break is here!!!

Hi all! Sorry for the long break between posts, we’ve been enjoying a much needed break from everything in life.  We finished up school, completed the Awana year and are just about done with ballet lessons for Emmy.

Here are some pictures from the Awana awards ceremony:

Thank you all for your patience!  After much prayer and thought I have decided to take the summer off from my blog to spend time with my kids.  The time is so short before they are grown and I want to enjoy every moment I can!  I will continue to pray about what direction to take this blog and will keep you all posted as decisions are made.  As time and inclination allows I may post occasionally this summer, so feel free to stop by and see if anything new has popped up!

Here are some pictures of our summer fun so far!

For those of you following my project 365, I hope to finish, but of course it is dependent on what my decision is regarding the direction of the blog.  Regardless, I won’t be doing any more with it for the summer.

Enjoy your summer everyone!!!  See you later!

Camping 2012

Last year we took our first camping trip since getting married and had a wonderful time!  Our summer this year has been so busy and crazy we thought we might not be able to go camping, but we were finally able to find a time that would work.  This year we went with my in-laws and 2 of the kids cousins, which was a nice treat.  We left on Friday morning and were able to be gone for the whole weekend!  Our in-laws went up early in the morning and found campsites for us, then gave us a call and we headed on up.

I had spent a lot of time getting everything ready during the week and it paid off on our trip, everything went smoothly and we had very few things that were a problem.  I did forget the adult baseball gloves, which was a problem when the kids wanted to play baseball, but otherwise it was relatively uneventful as far as having brought the right things.

The kids spent a lot of time with the men over at a lake close by.  They hiked to it and spent hours hanging out there before coming home soaked from wading in a creek nearby.  While they were all gone my mother-in-law and I had a wonderful time of tea and fellowship, so special!  It rained both afternoons, which cooled things off nicely and made it so much more comfortable for me.  :-)

On Saturday night we roasted marshmallows and made smores, Yum!

The kids had so much fun, they didn't want to come home and are already looking forward to whenever we can go again!

Annual Garage Sale

We had our annual garage sale!  Usually we have at least 2 other people bring their stuff to sell as well, but it didn't work out for anyone to bring things this year so it was just our stuff.  It was a bit of a smaller sale therefore but we still had a pretty good turnout.

The kids sold snacks and soda, which kept them occupied, especially Elijah.  They did a great job asking everyone that came if they wanted a soda or snack, I was so proud of them!

It was pretty hot both days of the sale, by the time we packed everything up at the end of each day I had huge swollen ankles and fingers. I was so glad to come inside each day! We had a lot leftover at the end of the sale so we took a load to goodwill, and a load to a local charity. We also kept a few things to sell on Craigslist. It was a pretty successful garage sale, we ended up making almost $300 and the kids made almost $30 from snacks!

More Hail...

Our garden is pretty much done for the year, it has been so hot and dry that the plants are very stunted.  And on top of that we had hail again, which pretty much was the death sentence for most of the plants.  The only things that have survived somewhat are the strawberries and mint.  :-(

Here are some pictures of our second hail storm.  It was not nearly as bad as the first time around, but enough to ruin the garden...

June and July 2012

We have been busy, busy, busy this summer.  While I have been posting about our vacation every week, a lot of other stuff has been happening.  While I haven't remembered to get pictures of it all, I have taken a few to show you.

Flowers that Mark bought me!

The day after we got back from California was Father's Day.  I had planned the whole day out before we left, although I could never pin Mark down on exactly what he wanted to do so I knew I would need to be flexible on how everything actually went.  But I had meals planned out and cards and gifts bought before we left.  I have worked in the nursery at church every year for the last 5 years on Father's Day, so this year I told them I wouldn't work that day.  Mark was very grateful for that, he feels like Father's Day is always a non-event (a fact I was hoping to change this year, and did!).  We spent the day "flying by the seat of our pants" per se, doing everything spur of the moment.  We ended up spending quite a bit of time with most of Mark's family, as well as playing games, going to church, and just generally hanging out.  Mark felt like it was a great day!

Also this summer Elijah has been getting together with a friend of his every Monday, either here or at his friends house.  So that has been happening every week.  They have a great time together!  It's so nice for Elijah to have someone to play with the same age as him, very hard to find in our group of friends.  One week we even had a bouncing house set up here for them (and all the other kids of course)!  The story behind that is Mark's shop is next to a business which rents the bounce houses out, and Mark has done a bit of work for them at a steep discount so they wanted to thank him by letting the kids use one of their bounce houses.  It ended up being a very popular thing, we had a neighbor boy come over for the whole day to jump in it and play with our kids, as well as several other neighbor kids.  :-)  One of the neighbors even bought pizza for all the kids using the bouncer!

Another big thing we did this summer was watch my in-laws chickens!  My in-laws have been gone on trips twice this summer, and both times they brought the chickens over to our house for the kids to watch.  The first time around Elijah did most all of the feeding, watering, and other general care and when the chickens were picked up he got paid for all his work!  I knew that whomever did the care would get paid but I didn't tell the kids because I wanted to see who would do the work dillegently without knowing they were getting something back from it.  I was so proud of Elijah, he really did a great job!  The second time around, the kids knew that they would get paid something if they helped but it still ended up being mostly Elijah doing the work, so he got most of the pay when the chickens were picked up.

Micah with the chickens the first time around

And Elijah.  You can see all the stuff I'm sorting for my garage sale behind the boys in these pictures.

And the second time around.  We had them outside this time, which really helped with the smell!

We signed up for the library's summer reading program, but because of our trip we didn't finish it.  When I got back from California it was really hard for me to get back in the swing of things.  I just have struggled so much with how much I have to do and keep up, and we're not even back in school yet!  I'm finally getting back into the swing of things, but the first week was terrible, I was soooo exhausted!  Anyhow, all that to say that I could never seem to get back into the habit of reading out loud to the kids for the month of June.  :-(

One weekend we went to a birthday party for some of our friends.  They have 2 girls with birthdays in June so they combined them into one party.  It was sooo nicely done, as always!  I enjoy going to parties and seeing how everything is put together.  The kids had a great time with their friends!
Birthday decorations, beautiful as always!

We have also gotten together with several other friends this summer, including cousins.  Emmaline got to spend the night at her cousins house, which she loved!  We also went to the park with friends a few times.  Whenever I'm pregnant people seem to pop out of the woodwork wanting to get together before the baby's born.  Not a bad thing, just makes for a busy time.  The kids always love to see their friends!

In July we went to our church's 4th of July picnic.  For the first time in as long as I can remember it was actually enjoyable, the kids are finally getting old enough to get some of their food themselves so I didn't spend the whole time running back and forth between the food tables and our table trying to get everyone fed and taken care of.  I even had time to eat!  The older kids have so many friends at church that as soon as we were done eating they were off to spend time with them.  And Mark is quite gregarious so he was gone as soon as we were done eating too. I sat at the table with the two little ones and played with cars and occasionally talked with people who stopped by, which is actually more my cup of tea anyway as I'm not very chatty.

We spent the actual 4th of July out at my parents house.  One of my brothers was there, as well as my uncle.  It was a great time of food and fellowship!  My parents had squirt guns and water balloons for the kids, two very popular things.  Even the adults got in on the action!
Water Balloons!!!

This last week was VBS.  I worked in the kitchen like I always do.  4 out of 5 of the kids are old enough to be actually in the program so it was just Micah that had to go in the nursery.  A couple of days we picked up cousins and brought them and the kids loved spending extra time with them!  I'm so glad that week is done, it was just like having a job for me, we had to be there by 8 a.m. everyday and didn't get home till after 1.  I'm so glad I don't have to work outside the home, I'm truly blessed!  I'm truly in awe of those women who are able to work outside the home, I couldn't do it.

So, that's a brief synopsis of some of what's been going on here this past month, in addition to all our regular stuff.  It might not seem like a lot to other people but for me it is just about all I can handle.  I have also been doing a ton of planning, sorting, paperwork, etc. but that will be for another post. :-)

Vacation 2012, part 8

Thursday morning we were up bright and early.  We ate breakfast, then packed up all our stuff and loaded up the car.  It was very sad to say goodbye to Mary and Ty because we don't know how long it will be till they can move back here.  I sure do wish they were closer.  :-(

Saying goodbye...

Before leaving San Diego we decided to visit one more museum at Balboa Park, the model railroad museum. Another one of Mark's hobbies is model trains so he had a great time looking at all the different layouts. I was still feeling a bit quesy, probably an after effect of the motion sickness pills, so I ended up sitting on a bench while he finished looking around.

And even More of Balboa Park, so beautiful!

On our way out of town we stopped at one last beach, La Jolla. It was a very nice place, very busy, but one of the only beaches we could find with free parking. We enjoyed walking the beach and gathering sea shells. I LOVE the beach, so it was wonderful to get one last chance to visit it before heading inland.

We were anxious to get home, so we started the long drive back.  We stoped at an In N' Out for dinner.  Yum!!!  Too bad we don't have any In N' Out's here!

We stopped just outside of Vegas for the night and slept in the car.  The next morning we drove straight through all the way to Mom and Dad's to pick up the kids.  We ended up spending the night at Mom and Dad's and coming home Saturday morning.  It is so nice to be home again!
