Frogs

Once a week we clean the frog cage, and while it's being cleaned the kids have fun holding the frogs and watching them jump around the living room.  They all have to take turns since we only have 2.  Here, Josiah is admiring Mrs. Jumper, who was enjoying all the attention and sitting perfectly still for my picture...

When it was Emmaline's turn she was wearing a sweater that the frogs could climb on and they climbed right up her sweater and nestled next to her hair!  She was a good sport and held still, except for giggling...

Here Elijah gets a turn.  He had to take a break from cleaning to hold the frogs, since they are his pets it's his job to clean the cage.  The frogs have been a good pet for us so far, they are easy to care for and don't require much attention or maintenance and they are fun to have around.  :-)

Hello Betsy!

Hope you are enjoying your summer off and having some relaxation time and adventures. Since we just ended up with frogs for pets I thought I'd check back here and reread your posts on your frogs to see if you have any tips! First, I see it's been a couple years since you got them, so I know it's possible you might not have them anymore... But, in the case that you do, I'd love to ask you a few questions. :o)

Did you go the meal worm or cricket or both route? I can handle the worms, but the crickets seem like a lot of maintenance and trips to the pet store!

Do your frogs make any noise?

I guess that's it, unless you have any other suggestions.

Thanks!

(And I'd love to see you sometime this summer if you have some time available.)

Hi Jes!

Yes, we are having a Great summer!!! Hope yours is going well too!

Yes, we still have the frogs! What kind did you get? Ours are not actually frogs but rather toads, fire bellied toads. I still think they are awfully cute. :-)

We buy crickets about once a week, as well as fish for the turtle. We often pick them up on the way home from church on Sundays. Crickets can be hard to keep alive, we buy special cricket food for them, but it lasts forever since they eat so little of it. At first they always died within a day or 2. :-( It took a little trial and error to get the hang of it but we have it down to a science now! Our frogs wouldn't eat anything but crickets, their breed only eats live food...

Also, frogs need special water, not straight tap water. And yes, our frogs do make noise, especially in the summer when its warmer. You probably won't want them right outside the bedrooms. ;-)

Other than that they are pretty easy pets, low maintenance and lots of fun to watch!

I'll send you a FB message and see if we can schedule a get together soon!
